New Tech Standards & Requirements

I believe that these standards are doing the right thing by incorporating technology in today's classroom.  I like the idea of using some of these techniques that we have used in class.  I believe in the future we will all be using technology to live and work like the Oregon Standard 6.  I have been using technology for a long time.  I would say I spend most of my day using technology while at home and at school.  Here at Willamette everything we do is using technology.  I feel that people can also become more creative while using the new technology with their presentations and other projects.
When it comes to using technology in PE, I feel that ti can be a great tool.  I can have students keep a blog of their daily eating habits or daily exercise routines.  I can use videos in PE to teach things as well.  I could use Ustream to teach a lesson in the PE/Health in case I couldn't be there.  I also like the idea of using google drawing for drawing out plays in coaching aspect of things.  I would like ti incorporate technology as much as possible in my classes.  I believe it makes things easier for everyone instead of going through everyone's papers they could all be in one place on my computer to grade.  I am excited where technology can take us in the future of teaching.

U-Stream Project

This assignment also didn't go as easy as I first thought.  We as a group wanted to go out and film a football game while streaming it live on the net.  Come to find out neither of us had the right camera to be compatible with the site.  We didn't want to use our lap top web cams.  So that is why we made this video with Colin's lap top.  I would still like the class to watch the live stream of the game mentioned in the video above.  I believe this is a great tool which can also be fun.  You can use this in the classroom for teaching lessons when you need a sub or can not make to the classroom.  I am excited to use this tool in the future for many things including education.

Analyzing Student Data in a Spreadsheet

This assignment was a difficult one for me because I feel that I just didnt pay attention to the directions in class as well as I should have.  I was trying to embed my sheet into the compose section of my blog instead of the Edit HTML portion.  I was getting frustrated and wanting to just forget it but I finally got some help and got myself back on track.
I feel that I as a teacher would spend more individual time with these students to help them improve their averages.  I would help students who fell below the average after every test so that the students wouldn't fall further behind.  I would want to jump on those students before they completely fell off the grade book.  I would want to be there and asking these students questions to help them get better understanding of the materials.

My Favorite Web2.0 Tools

Web 2.0 are things that I as a students use everyday.  It includes all of those free google products such as documents, sheets, and presentation.  I use these product almost everyday without even knowing that they were web 2.0 tools.  Most of the Web 2.0 tools are free and require no download.  These are great tools to use because of the ease of use and also the price.........FREE!

TinyURL is a great way to remember certain web pages that you wouldn't remember if there was a huge URL to type in.  What this tool does is take a long URL and create it into a smaller URL which is easier to remember.  In a classroom setting it would be great for a students who are creating websites to lessen the length of their URLs for the class to remember for further reference.

Voice Thread is a very interesting tool for myself.  I love the idea of placing photos and being able to discuss them while showing my presentation to a group of people.  With this tool you can pretty much not even be there for a presentation and just have the presentation run which is nice.  I also like this tool in that if I am speaking at a coaching clinic and there is a photo on the board I can read off of a script and record what the drill is about or what is happening.

Google Presentation

Google Presentation:  This is a simple free tool produced by Google.  It is the same as Microsoft power point but I believe that Google presentation is quite a bit simpler than MO.  This is a great tool for students and fellow teachers to use in the classroom.  Students could work on team projects from home without meeting somewhere in case the students were working or involved in school.  Also for teachers I believe this is a great tool for everyone to edit and make new slides.  Teachers could really get on the same page by keeping their slide similar in classes and collaborating on new and fun ideas.  I had little to no trouble using this tool in that I have used it before in other classes.  It was fairly easy to use and something I will continue to use in my classes.  It is sometimes hard to meet with a group when everyone is so busy.  By the way it's FREE!!!

Blogging Techniques

I believe that the use of blogging can be used in many positive ways in the classroom.  The first way that is mentioned is that blogging can be used as motivation for those students who are afraid to participate in class discussions.  Not every student that I will encounter with want to speak in class or share their opinions.  If you have a blog up for students to use they can comment in writing rather then speaking in front of everyone in the class.  This also helps students with their reading and writing skills out of the classroom.  If the students are constantly reading each others comments and also replying in their own thoughts with writing them down or typing.  It is also a great place for students to discuss with each other in case they don't understand a topic from the class or they would like to hear other ideas from students.

As far as using these in my PE class I could use blogs for students to discuss what they feel about the class.  I would use these suggestions to improve my class and make it more beneficial for the students.  I would also ask students what they may have thought of the activity that we did that day.  This would also be a great evaluation tool for myself to use after teaching a class.  It would be interesting to see what the students really thought of the class.  I believe this would help me become a better teacher in the long run.

Personal Bio

My name is Chad Smith.  I was born in Bend, Oregon on January 26th, 1987.  We lived in Sisters, Oregon until I was about three or four years old and eventually moved to Sweet Home, Oregon.  My parents names were Gregory and Elsie Smith.  I have one half brother who is older than me.  His name is Ben Sell.  We have different dads.  I don't remember much of my younger childhood.

We moved to Sweet Home to be closer to both my mother and father's family.  I hadn't even started school yet so the move wasn't a huge shock to me.  When arriving in Sweet Home it seemed like a great place.  I soon found a great friend who lived only two doors down from me.  Our mothers worked together which helped us get to know each other better.  As far back as I can remember I have always loved sports.  I remember always watching football and professional wrestling with my dad as often as we could.

When i was in about the seventh grade I knew that I wanted to become a football coach.  All through school I was over thinking every sport that I would play.  I would think of myself as a coach and try to figure out why we would do this or that.  I was always asking questions or trying to learn everyone's responsibilities on the field.

I graduated from High School in 2005 from Sweet Home High School and began my college career.  I began my first year at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon.  I was then given the chance to attend Eastern Oregon University to play football my sophomore year.  I went and played football but just couldn't handle the location in La Grande with nothing to do so I came back to Lane.  After Lane I decided to go to Oregon State University  and Linn-Benton Community College.  After a year there I decided to transfer one last time to Western Oregon University.  I graduated from WOU in the summer of 2010 with a bachelor's of science in exercise science and a minor in health.  I have been to many schools but still finished my undergraduate degree in five years.  I came to Willamette University to receive my MAT because of the location and the length of the program.  I have also known people who have came through the program and said great things about it.

My interests include coaching, teaching, singing karaoke, and also shooting.  My brother has got me into competitive shooting so I am practicing at the local rifle club and preparing to compete.  I have coached football and basketball for the last two years at Sprague High School in Salem, Oregon.  I can often be found sing karaoke at some of the local bars in town.  I am excited to become a teacher and help anyway that I can in a young persons life.
